The Honorees

Tom Thompson Tom Thompson started teaching mathematics at Walla Walla University (then Walla Walla College) in 1971. During his 40+ years at WWU he has inspired and challenged generations of mathematics students. Tom has received numerous teaching awards, including the Pacific Northwest MAA 2012 Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics.

Tom will be retiring at the end of 2013. This conference is organized to honor his years of dedicated service.

Ken Wiggins Ken Wiggins joined the WWU mathematics department in 1980. In 1992 he became the department chair, a capacity in which he has served since that time. Ken has been recognized as an outstanding chair and leader, but is looking forward to more time in the classroom.

Ken will be stepping down as chair during the summer of 2013. This conference is organized in recognition of his 20+ years of leadership in the department.
